Free Health Talk on July 9th with Laura Mui
Cultivating and Practicing Self-Love: An Introduction to identifying the roots of relational trauma towards self love and more fulfilling interpersonal relationships.
We hope you’ll join us for this month’s free health talk with Laura Mui of Conscious Roots. Here’s what she has to say about this month’s topic:
Hello, I’m Laura, a licensed marriage and family therapist, parent, daughter, sister, partner, teacher and…! In my practice, Conscious Roots, I offer humor, warmth, compassion, appreciation, equity and authenticity to support people in their journey towards self-awareness, self love, self- acceptance, and self-empowerment. I believe that a person’s internal terrain is the least traveled and the most rewarding and impactful for both personal and community transformation. My practice is held with love inside Oakland Floats, in Oakland’s dynamic Temescal district.
In this talk we will expand our understanding of trauma to include relational trauma: both acute and chronic ruptures in connection with a significant person(s) in one’s life. This is most commonly known and understood in the context of physical, verbal, emotional, sexual abuse and neglect. However, the focus of this talk is to identify personal relational traumas that can also look like betrayal, abandonment, unacknowledged woundings, oppression by dominant culture, refusal of support, and withholding love. Using small group discussion, experiential exercises, mindfulness and meditation, this offering intends to help you begin to identify where, when and with whom you may have experienced relational trauma; how this trauma impacts your present life, and some concrete tools/skills to begin your healing journey.
