We love Oakland. When we were searching for the right space, we admit we shamefully peered into Berkeley and Emeryville, if only to see what possibilities were out there. But we were always calling ourselves “Oakland Floats,” so it was destined to never work outside these borders.
It had to be Oakland. Having lived in this area since 1998, Oakland is our home. And its resurgence over the last several years gives our name even more meaning. You will see on this website and in our space that floating is not just about water, but about flight and imagination. We chose hot air balloons and the early 1900s as a time when the pace of life was slower and the sky truly seemed the limit when it came to new modes of transportation. Draw it, build it, crash a few times, refine it, take off!
Much like Oakland. It’s rising. Nestled between Piedmont Avenue and the 51st/Telegraph Temescal area, our little strip of shops on the 40th St. corridor is rising. Come for a float, then stay and check out the rest of what’s happening here.
